Load-bearing Surfaces

Load-bearing Surfaces

To complement the fast heat-up times offered by our heating panels, JUPITER has developed a range of load bearing surfaces which are our dry-installed alternative to screeding. Our load bearing surfaces are much thinner than screeds and therefore far less material is needed to be warmed before the air in the space can start to be heated.

Screed Replacement Tile

The Screed Replacement Tile (SRT) system is the ultimate low profile alternative to a screed and can span both solid and suspended floors delivering a seamless substrate. Although only 18mm thick, it is stronger than a screed and heats up and cools down within minutes rather than hours. Our SRT system comprises tongue-and-groove tiles laid in brick-bond format; they are glued together but not to the substrate. The SRT system can accept any floor finish and can be installed by the layman. Use of the SRT system also guarantees a tile or stone floor finish will not crack or fail, without the requirement for a decoupling membrane.

DigitalTile

The Screed Replacement Tile is available as a glazed finished floor tile. Currently available in 6 different finishes, the new DigitalTile measures 900 x 300 mm and cleverly doubles up as an immediate loading bearing surface as well as a finished floor. At only 18 mm thick this innovative system dramatically saves height and optimises any panel-based heating system sat beneath.

No need to screed

As there is no screed to dry out, our approach also offers tremendous advantages to your building program. Final floor finishes can typically be installed 24 – 48 hours after JUPITER has left site.

Our screed alternatives are perfect for historic and conservation projects where they serve to profoundly decrease the volume of moisture introduced to the delicate building fabric.

Fermacell

One of our most versatile materials, Fermacell is suitable for almost every type of floor finish (except large tiles!) and offers excellent acoustic performance to boot. Fermacell is an easy-to-install, 20 mm thick, twin-layer flooring board composed of gypsum and recycled reinforcing fibres. JUPITER manufacture Fermacell boards at a more manageable size of 1200 x 600 mm. The offset lap joints are simply glued and screwed together.

Focused on innovation

When Jupiter first joined the UK market in 2004, having been successfully established in Germany for eight years prior, the handful of other suppliers in the UK were not offering materials for installation on top of their heating panels–instead flooring grade chipboard was commonplace.

From its inception, JUPITER recognised that reducing thermal resistance, and introducing mass was key to a consolidated system and so Fermacell gypsum fibreboards were offered as a superior alternative to complement the IDEAL heating panel range. Nearly 20 years later, Jupiter provide an unrivalled lineup of screed alternatives to suit every floor finish and every budget.

Firmax CP

Firmax CP is a 12 mm thick cement panel system, delivered as two 6 mm thick boards to promote ease of installation. Firmax CP is installed as two, staggered layers with a thin layer of  high-grab spray adhesive before load is applied to ensure a secure bond between the two layers. Firmax CP affords the floor a high point load capacity at minimal depth.
